Making New Year's Resolutions that Work
Do you find yourself making New Year’s resolutions, only to forget them a few weeks later? Often what is missing is enough focus and support. This year move forward decisively with these easy to follow tips:
-
Take stock of the past year and give yourself lots of credit. Before moving. forward notice what you have already achieved.
-
Take time and space to ask what you want in every area of your life. Don’t worry if the answers don’t immediately come to mind. Be patient.
-
Finish old unfinished business to make space for the new. Whether it is sorting clutter, paying bills, or making amends, closure will free up your energy.
-
With goal setting, start with the long term, then work backwards to the present. Long term goals tend to be general and constant whereas short and medium goals are more specific and changeable.
-
Write down your resolutions, review and update them regularly. Otherwise you will forget and lose the power of your goals.
-
Find a person or a group to be accountable to for carrying out decisions made each week. This is very important to stay on track
-
Visualise and use positive affirmations regularly, e.g. “I can and I will”
-
Set up personal support to deal with internal obstacles – fears, limits or doubts. Find someone you trust and arrange a regular talk date each week to review progress, talk about anxieties, problem solve and decide on next steps.
-
Remember Nelson Mandela’s words in his inaugural speech…..
-
“Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our Light, not our darkness that most frightens us”. - Nelson Mandela
